Kevin’s Pranks and Ryan’s Patience
What begins as a classroom prank between a mischievous student and a quiet newcomer turns into an unexpected friendship. Through laughter, notes, and one unforgettable game of hide-and-seek, this story shows how friendships can bloom in the most surprising ways.
When Mr. D introduced a new student to our reading class, all eyes turned to him. “This is Ryan,” Mr. D said with a warm smile. “Find an open seat and get settled.” Ryan glanced around nervously before quietly walking to the back of the room, choosing the seat near the window.
The next day, things didn’t go quite as smoothly. As Ryan pulled out his notebook, he discovered a sticky piece of gum stuck right on top of his book. “Gross!” he muttered. Kevin, the class prankster, snickered nearby. Kevin was well-known in Mr. D’s classroom for causing trouble and never taking anything seriously.
During a spelling test, Kevin nudged Ryan under the desk and whispered, “Hey, check out my paper.”
Ryan shook his head. “Oh jeez… I can’t share answers or I’ll get in trouble too.”
Kevin smirked. “Yeah, that’s right. Forget about that now. You wanna be friends?”
Ryan hesitated, then smiled. “Sure.”
And just like that, a strange friendship began—born out of pranks and surprises. They started writing funny notes and leaving them in the boys’ locker room, like: “Do not open unless you want to laugh!” They shared jokes, fake complaints about homework, and even silly doodles.
One afternoon, as they walked to the cafeteria with their trays, Kevin leaned over and said, “Oh guess what—I failed all my classes. I’m repeating the year.”
Ryan looked at him, shocked. “That’s sad to hear, but if you need help, I’ll—”
“Got you!” Kevin burst out laughing. “I was joking.”
Ryan rolled his eyes. “You got me good.”
After lunch, they scribbled a note on a napkin and tossed it toward a table full of girls: “Want to be friends? Meet us at the park after school.” Surprisingly, it worked. That afternoon, the girls showed up—curious and giggling.
At the park, Ryan and Kevin led the group in a game of hide-and-seek. Kevin, always the one with a plan, told the girls to hide by the pine trees. “Stay close,” he instructed with a grin.
But the girls had a trick of their own.
When Ryan and Kevin opened their eyes after counting, the girls were gone. Completely. No giggles, no footsteps—just silence.
“They were supposed to hide near the trees…” Ryan said, scanning the area.
“Where did they go?” Kevin added, his voice lowering. A faint breeze rustled the leaves.
Then they spotted something: an old, broken-down building at the edge of the park with a door swinging open in the wind. Slowly, they approached it.
“Should we go in?” Ryan asked.
Kevin gulped. “You first.”
They peeked behind the wall—and suddenly, a burst of laughter exploded around them. The girls had been hiding there the whole time.
“You got us!” Kevin said, laughing as he clutched his chest. “I thought you disappeared!”
“That’s for the cafeteria napkins!” one of the girls shouted.
From that day on, the whole group—Ryan, Kevin, and their new friends—became inseparable. Hide-and-seek, lunch table notes, inside jokes—what started as a prank turned into something real: friendship.
Sometimes, the best friendships start with a prank—and grow with patience, laughter, and a little hide-and-seek.
